Artificial Intelligence and Robotics

I think that robots can do certain things that humans can do but cannot do everything a human can do. A robot can easily calculate digits in mathematical equations, match fingerprints through a database, and search for duplicates in a massive one million search of objects. This is because of programming done by humans to the robots. Robots cannot think abstract as well as a human currently since humans program the robots and not every single detail can be programmed into a robot about something in particular (favorite book etc.) In the article The Huggable: A Therapeutic Robotic Companion for Relational, Affective Touch, it states: “In the first mode, the Huggable will be interacting with people, responding to the affective content of their touch with appropriate reactions.” I think that this is a huge leap in technology and it can show that you can make a robot think.

I think that a robotic car can be both a great idea and a bad idea at the same time. In the article Shut your eyes and drive, it says: “Autonomous cars capable of sensing their surroundings and avoiding collision are already taking to the streets. Equipped with powerful computers and sensors, these vehicles promise to help ease the strain of driving and reduce jams on our over-burdened roads.” That is a great idea because it can help with going places without creating stress on the driver. The problems that I see with robotic cars is that they can malfunction and crash which would never be a good thing. The other problem that I see is that they might take unnecessary long routes if the GPS decides to not take a certain street and ends up going around.

I think that robots are more likely to make errors than humans for different reasons. A robot can only do what it is programmed to do and if it gets a certain operation/instruction that it cannot do, it will create an error. Humans can sometimes forget something and cause an error too, but robots can completely go haywire on certain illegal operations or errors. For example, if an error happens in MS-DOS, sometimes it messes up the whole operating system and you need to shut down because nothing will work until you reboot.

Creativity and Social Media

 Creativity and Social Media

For this Project I decided to go with Minecraft, a game that has been massively popular since it first came out. I made a skin (avatar) of myself out in the Tropics. I used a program made by the minecraft community called MCSkin3d to make the avatar.

Social Media

My social networking sites:

  • Twitter: Nessaj01

I prefer Twitter because it is quick and easy to post tweets on a hashtag page. I recently discovered Tumblr and I think it looks neat to have one. Recently, Yahoo! bought out Tumblr in the article Yahoo Acquires Tumblr, Promises ‘not to screw it up’, it says: "Per the agreement and our promise not to screw it up, Tumblr will be independently operated as a separate business. David Karp will remain CEO. The product, service and brand will continue to be defined and developed separately with the same Tumblr irreverence, wit, and commitment to empower creators,"

Virtual worlds are online communities in simulated environments that can either be simulators or massively multiplayer online games. Some examples of Virtual worlds are Second Life, Mortal Online and Runescape. You can nearly do anything in virtual worlds, in the article iReport: 'Naughty Auties' battle autism with virtual interaction: it states: “David Savill, 22, lives in Gloucester, England, in real life and created this spot within the virtual world of Second Life. Residents of this digital realm can represent themselves with 3-D images called avatars and connect with each other over the Internet.” I can be anything in a virtual world, some avatars that I go under are various created characters under the name Xronim, ranging from someone who looks like me to an Elven Ranger.

World Wide Web

The future of the World Wide Web will be on what is called a Cloud, which is an internet database that can hold anything. I think that Clouds will take over some independent websites that might get overshadowed by the Clouds. Some examples of what a Cloud is are search engines such as Google, AltaVista, and Dogpile. Other examples of a Cloud are downloading websites such as MediaFire and Dropbox.

I think that clouds are a great idea because it is one massive database that is easy to remember. In the article The Windy City Teams with Microsoft on Cloud Strategy, it states: “As part of a new cloud computing strategy, Mayor Rahm Emanuel today announced that the City of Chicago will move 30,000 employees to Microsoft Office 365 for cloud-based e-mail and productivity.” Search engines and search features on websites are also improving. In the article Facebook search: Facebook adding search feature, It says: “Available as a beta or early version to hundreds of thousands of users now, the new feature -- dubbed "graph search" because Facebook refers to its growing content, data and membership as the "social graph" -- will initially let users browse mainly photographs, people, places and members' interests, he added.”
